History

Over 35 Years of Innovation

Berkeley Springs Instruments, LLC, (BSI) has specialized in the development and application of innovative industrial technologies for over 35 years. These technologies include in-service tank robotics, nuclear power plant control room design, neural network software development, remote monitoring systems, and more. BSI and its legacy companies embarked in 1980 and have designed and fabricated hundreds of remotely controlled and robotic machines for the inspection of above ground storage tanks (AST’s), and confined spaces worldwide. BSI has a strong and globally respected reputation and foundation of technical excellence.

BSI understands the end-to-end design of monitoring networks with decades of experience in control room and SCADA system interface design, alarm systems and large-scale risk assessment analyses. BSI management has participated in world class IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) safety system design committees, remote system controls, complex information management projects and a range of human-machine monitoring and control networks from satellites to subsea.

BSI serves a broad range of industries, including energy, petrochemical, electric utilities, pharmaceuticals, and municipalities.

Evolution

BSI has pioneered the development of remotely controlled robotic ultrasonic scanners for the inspection of nuclear power plants and above ground storage tanks throughout the world. BSI has provided consultation to some of the largest corporations in the world in a wide range of technology application areas. We have developed a creative team of technicians, engineers and scientists who have provided years of direct experience to serving our customers' projects.

Our innovative development of mechanical integrity assessment, continual monitoring, and advanced analytical software distinguishes us in the industry. Technology’s evolution provides the foundation for our ability to address new applications with products and ideas. We put a strong focus on the user experience: real time, Internet-accessible mechanical integrity information that is easy to understand and interpret. This is the primary driver of our product development strategy: change and adaptation based on technology’s evolution.

Vision

BSI specializes in the design and fabrication of innovative ultrasonic transducers, processing software and multi-parameter sensor networks for monitoring the integrity of tanks and pipelines. We bring innovative technologies to the market that provide a positive environmental benefit, protect personnel, and enhance current and future energy resources while helping our customers perform in a competitive environment.

BSI invests heavily in research & development. We explore opportunities to improve our suite of mechanical integrity sensors and proprietary software with emphasis on ease of use and enhanced data security.

Our products are designed and manufactured in Frostburg, Maryland. BSI has locations on both US coasts, the Mid-West, and along the Gulf of Mexico strategically placed to serve our efforts in mechanical integrity wireless communication solutions.
